THUNDERBIRD RESORTS: EXPRESS YOUR ART PHOTOCONTEST III

THEME

The theme for the contest is “Fiestas”. This includes any major and minor holiday as well as any religious and/or local festivities in the Philippines held from March 1, 2011 to December 9, 2011.

MECHANICS

Who Will Qualify

This photo contest is open to all professional and amateur photographers, eighteen (18) years old and above, who are residents of the Philippines. This includes foreigners residing in the Philippines, provided that they present their Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) I-Card.

Rules on Submission of Entries

1. An entry consists of:
1. One (1) completed Registration Form
2. 8” x 12” print of the contest entry
3. CD copy of the contest entry with file extension .jpg or .tiff (8x12 inches at 300 dpi or greater, SRGB).
2. One (1) photo is equivalent to one (1) contest entry. Participants may submit a maximum of three (3) entries per round (total of six entries). When submitting entries, they may combine several contest entries in one legal size brown envelope.
3. Each photo must have a copy of the Registration Form attached at the back, together with the photo’s title and details including name of the Fiesta / Festival, (b) date the photo was taken and (c) place where the photo was taken.
4. All photo shots must have been taken from March 1, 2011 to December 9, 2011. Metadata must reflect such information.
5. Deadline and Submission of Entries: All entries must be received by Thunderbird Resorts at its Makati office on or before: 
1. July 8, 2011, for photos taken from March 1 to July 8, 2011; and 
2. December 9, 2011 for photos taken from July 9 to December 9, 2011. 

All entries should be mailed or personally submitted inside a sealed envelope to:

6. Contest organizers are not responsible for any postal or technical delay in the transmission of the entries.
7. The photo contest shall have two (2) qualifying rounds. Photos taken from March 1 to July 8 must be received on or before July 8, 2011. Photos taken from July 1 to December 9 must be received on or before December 9, 2011.
8. Screening of finalists shall be done in the presence of a DTI Representative who shall ensure that the rules of the contest are followed.
9. Participants may download registration forms from www.thunderbird-asia.com.
10. All entries should be free of borders, watermarks, trademarks or any other markings.
11. Submitted photos shall be exclusive to this contest. They must be unpublished and must not have been submitted and will not be submitted in any other contests, both local and international.
12. Black & white and color formats are accepted. Basic tonal and exposure adjustments, removal of dust, sharpening, color correction, and cropping are allowed. Elements should not be added nor removed. High Dynamic Range (HDR), Infra Red (IR) and Stitched photos are not accepted.
13. All entries should meet the contest criteria. Non-compliance with contest rules (e.g., incorrect photo size, incomplete requirements, late submission of entries) will result to disqualification.
14. The participant shall guarantee that entries are taken by him or her. No other entity has rights, claims or interests on the submitted photographs. To this end, the participant shall execute the Undertaking, upon submission of the participant’s entry within the prescribed contest period.

Criteria for Judging

Entries will be judged on the following criteria: 

Artistic Merit perceived quality or value as a work of art grabs viewer's attention and holds it presents a "wow" factor subject matter is pictured in a unique or interesting way demonstrates originality has good composition, i.e., items of interest placed well in the photo	50%
Technical Excellence lack of distracting elements lighting is balance and used in interesting ways photo in focus depth of field is considered/used shutter speed used appropriate for the photo	30%
Thematic Relevance how well the photo captures the essence of fiestas and tells a story of what goes on in such events	20%

All entries must portray an accurate reflection of the contest theme, without alteration (other than standard optimization, including removal of dust, cropping, adjustments to color and contrast, etc.)

Mechanics for Judging

1. FIRST HALF
1. On July 11, 2011, 10:00 AM at the Thunderbird Resorts office Makati Office: Screening of all entries. Twenty-five (25) finalists will be selected based on the criteria. A DTI representative shall be present to ensure compliance of contest rules.
2. On July 24, 2011: all first half finalists shall be announced via www.thunderbird-asia.com.
2. SECOND HALF
1. On December 12, 2011 10:00 AM at the Thunderbird Resorts office Makati Office: Screening of all entries. Another set of twenty-five (25) finalists will be selected based on the criteria. A DTI representative shall be present to ensure compliance of contest rules.
2. On December 16, 2011: the second half-finalists will be announced via www.thunderbird-asia.com.
3. DETERMINATION, ANNOUNCEMENT AND AWARDING of GRAND PRIZE
1. The Grand Prize winner and consolation prize winners shall be selected from the Finalists. Determination of Grand Prize winner shall be on December 20, 2011, 3:00 p.m. at the Thunderbird Resorts Makati Office. Presence of a DTI representative shall be requested to ensure contest rules are observed. Prizes for this contest are as follows:
1. Grand Prize - Php 250,000.00

The entry with the highest rating among all entries shall be declared the Grand Prize winner. In case of a tie, the judges shall decide the winner by majority vote.

2. 49 finalists will each receive a Php 5,000 consolation prize.
1. To ensure that judging is fair and objective, all finalist entries shall be numbered. The names of the photographers shall not be disclosed until winning entries are identified. Prior to the announcement of the winners on December 23, 2011, a participant shall not disclose or announce his or her authorship of the entries. Any announcement or disclosure shall be a ground for disqualification of the entry.
2. Judges' decision is final and binding with the concurrence of the DTI representative.
3. Should two entries of a single contestant be included among the 50 finalists, the following rules shall apply:
1. Provided that he/she doesn't win the Grand Prize, the participant wins P10,000.
2. If he/she wins the Grand Prize, the participant wins the P250,000 and P5,000 cash prize, with a total of P255,000.
4. On December 23, 2011, the Grand Prize winner and consolation prize winners shall be announced via www.thunderbird-asia.com. The Grand Prize winner and consolation prize winners shall be individually notified of the results via registered mail, email and/or phone call.
5. Awarding of prizes will be held on January 28, 2012. Details of the awarding ceremony shall be relayed to the finalists via SMS or email.
6. On January 28, 2012, the Grand Prize winner must present at least two (2) valid IDs. He/she will be presented with a mock check during the awarding ceremony. After the ceremony, he/she must personally claim the prize at the above-stated office address and present at least two valid IDs.
7. Consolation prize winners must also present at least two (2) valid IDs on January 28.
8. Winners unable to attend the awarding ceremony may claim their prizes at Thunderbird Resorts Office located at the 18th Floor, Salcedo Towers, 169 H.V. Dela Costa St., Makati City and present at least two (2) valid IDs,
9. For consolation prize winners based in the province, prizes may be deposited to bank accounts under their names, provided they send a written signed request to jahenares@thunderbird-asia.com containing bank account details and with at least two (2) valid I.D. attached.
10. Prizes not claimed within 60 days shall be forfeited in favor of Thunderbird Resorts with prior approval for the DTI.
11. Taxes on prizes shall be the sole responsibility of the winner.

Rights over the Submitted Photographs

Ownership of the photos shall be with the photographers of the entries. However, submission of these photos as entries to Thunderbird Resorts-Asia give option to the latter and its event partners the right to use the photo outside of the photo contest, which may include Exhibit, Company’s brochures, posters, billboard, postcards, merchandise, online advertisement, website, web blogs, social networking sites, and other online marketing sites. By submitting the photo as an entry in this contest, the contestant is deemed to have given consent to Thunderbird Resorts-Asia the right to use the photo in the above matter for a period of five (5) years. Thunderbird Resorts will not sell the rights to the photos for monetary consideration. *NOTE ONLY WINNING ENTRIES can be used. Other Photos submitted will require consent from their respective photographers.

Disqualification of Thunderbird Resorts’ and Affiliates’ Employees, Contractors, Consultants Agents and Their Relatives

Employees, including contractors, consultants and agents of Thunderbird Resorts and its affiliates as well as their relatives up to the 3rd degree of consanguinity or affinity are disqualified from joining this contest.
